Pupils become construction workers for the day at educational site visit

All Saints Primary School visited the nearby housing development for an interactive and educational site tour recently.
The year two pupils saw the construction team in action and learnt about the equipment used to build new homes and the different jobs available in the industry. To conclude the visit, they were invited to take a seat in one of the diggers and had a chance to put their newfound knowledge to the test by building a wall.
As new research reveals that the UK needs nearly one million new tradespeople by 2032 to keep pace with demand, David Wilson Homes is helping to educate the next generation of builders at All Saint’s Primary School in Norreys Avenue, Wokingham. The children were invited to visit the house builder’s nearby Ashridge Grange development on Warren House Road for an insight into the work that they do.
Kimberley Benson, sales and marketing director for David Wilson Southern Counties, commented: “As a responsible house builder, it is important for us to begin educating the next generation about our diverse industry, and we were proud to invite the pupils from All Saint’s Primary School to Ashridge Grange to find out all about our growing development here in Wokingham. We hope that the visit demonstrated how exciting and versatile the construction industry is, and will inspire the pupils to consider a career in this field when they grow up.”
Bella Schroeder, year two teacher at All Saint’s Primary School, added: “Our year two’s visit this week provided an opportunity to build on the work we have been doing in our PSHE classes highlighting the importance of teamwork. It was great to be able to show the children successful examples of working together, and the interactive sessions were important additions that allowed our pupils to try out first hand some of the everyday jobs. It was great to see some of our budding builders get stuck in with the site team!”

A New School Minibus... July 2021

Our minibus forms an integral part of school life here at All Saints. We have been very fortunate to have the support of Variety.org in acquiring minibuses for our school and on the 7^th July 2021, a group of children and staff went to Bearwood Lakes Golf Course to receive our brand new 17 seater minibus. We managed to dodge the showers and were presented with the keys to our new minibus by Joe Hemani a local businessman. Also attending the presentation were ex footballers/managers Steve Coppell and Kenny Dalgleish alongside Strictly Come Dancing’s Len Goodman.

Our minibus is used for a variety of activities including trips to:

• Riding for the disabled – A small group of children with SEN and /or physical disabilities are able to have a horse riding lesson every week. Sophie Christenson, the Paralympian Gold medallist began horse riding through RDA at our school (known then as Palmer School) which is a great inspiration to all of our pupils.
• Oakwood Centre - Groups of children are given the opportunity to take part in outdoor and adventurous education activities such as archery and climbing at the Oakwood Centre.  These courses run at different times during the year and the All Saints mini-bus also helps with transporting children from other local schools to the centre as well.
• JAC – ‘Just Around the Corner’ is a Christian charity which offers personal learning and development therapies for SEN children including those with physical disabilities.
• All Saints Church - As a church school, we visit church regularly for services and also use the church and grounds to enhance our curriculum. The mini-bus is used to transport disabled children and some of their peers to the church as well as taking props, equipment needed and our harvest festival collection.
• Sports fixtures - Sports are a really important aspect of the All Saints Curriculum. We endeavour to give all pupils the experience of representing their school in a competition, the mini-bus is essential to transport children to and from competitions.
• Wokingham - An importance aspect of education is learning about the local community and the town of Wokingham. The mini-bus enables us to transport children to different parts of our town, for example Tesco or the Wokingham Town Hall, without incurring the huge costs of hiring a coach.

Down Lodge Care Home...

Hearts for Homes...

At All Saints, we have decided to take part in a community project to spread some intergenerational joy between children and residents in a local care home. Our children have all completed a heart with a picture or joyful message for a resident in a care home.  

Harvest...

During the week commencing Monday 5^th October, the pupils of All Saints celebrated the harvest festival. Sadly, we were unable to visit All Saints Church this year. However, in classrooms, the children discussed where our food comes from and thought about families in our world who do not always have enough to eat. Harvest donations, which were left at the school gate, will be donated to the Wokingham Food Bank. 

Back to School...

Year 6 Festival Day...

All Saints says goodbye to Year 6 with a mini-festival.

All the usual ways of marking the transition from Primary to Secondary were out of reach of Year 6 due to the Coronavirus, so All Saints primary school marked the occasion with a festival day.  The sun shone and all the children spent the morning enjoying a silent disco, penalty shootout, parachute games, pottery painting, drama games, giant games, toasting marshmallows and most importantly, an Ice-cream stall.

Assistant Head Nicola Dawson said “It has been an extraordinary year for all of our children at All Saints but we wanted to do something extra special for our Y6 children to send them off to their secondary schools with happy memories of their time at our school.  It was a fantastic team effort between staff and the PTA to ensure the children had a day they would never forget.”

Following a picnic lunch, there was an outdoor awards ceremony, bible and book presentation and the children received their special All Saints cake and hoodie.  It was an emotional occasion for staff and children alike, who are going to several different secondary schools, and they welcomed the change to say goodbye to each other (at a safe social distance).  All left with huge smiles on their faces…and a few tears!

Chloe Jefferies said “It made me feel sad because it was my last day at All Saints but I will always be a part of the All Saints family. I had a lovely special day. I will miss everyone at the school but I feel I am ready for the next chapter in my life.”

Abi Wilton said “It was really fun and really nice that the teachers did this for us.  I cried my eyes out at the end, because I was sad to be leaving such a special school.”

During the summer holidays,work began to improve some areas of school....

Year 6 ‘Residential Trip’…

Year 6 should have been going on their residential trip this week: 18^th – 22^nd May.

The teachers in year 6 wanted to give the children some activities that might help make them feel better about not being away and here are some of their efforts; of which include: climbing trees, den making, creating games and scavenger hunts!

School may be shut but the learning at All Saints hasn’t stopped...

All pupils went home with learning packs full of worksheets, suggested timetables, links to learning and plenty of creative ideas.  Children have been busy with their pencils but also their paintbrushes, trowels and mixers.

Headteacher Tracey Stanton said ‘all our staff did an incredible job creating the packs, which covered the breadth of our    curriculum.  Everyone pulled together to ensure they reached all our children, including those who were already in self-isolation.  We know it’s a huge change for our children and parents and we wanted to makes sure we are supporting the   children’s learning and wellbeing at this very challenging time’.

 If the school has to remain closed after Easter, learning will switch online, using the Microsoft teams platform, and pupils are already using this to ask questions to their teachers, and to support each other.  Year 6 have recently been set some extra PE and Years 3 and 4 are getting class rewards for work completed.

 Assistant Head Nicola Dawson said ‘the well-being of our school family is so important to us, and this seemed a great way to be able to give children the continuity they need to be able to keep learning and feel connected’.

 Parent Laura Keey said “Everything is really comprehensive, perfectly pitched and keeping the children occupied for the right amount of time each day - absolutely fabulous whilst we both also try to work from home”.

'Stories for Breakfast' on World Book Day - Thursday 5th March

More families than ever before came in to school early to listen to a story read aloud by a member of staff. Once again, there was an amazing range of book character costumes worn by both children and adults. A selection of photographs are below

Ground Force Day - 12 January 2020

A massive thank you to everyone who helped. It was good to see some new faces and some regulars. Many hands do make light(er) work! We did a great job removing an overgrown hedge... Next GF day will be 1st March.

Skipping

On Wednesday 8^th January all of KS2 participated in workshops run by Chris from ‘Dan the Skipping Man’. In the sessions children learnt how to control the skipping rope, perform a jump and more complex moves such as the pretzel. Children have now been given the challenge to try and improve their skipping skills at lunchtimes and break times as well as in their P.E lessons. Children were even inspired to buy their own skipping ropes on the day and continue to practise at home and at school. We have many more fun P.E workshops coming up this term and next term, which we hope the children will enjoy just as much as they enjoyed the skipping.

All Saints Christmas Church Service

We held our Christmas Service at All Saints Church on Wednesday 18^th December. The singing was amazing as usual and included our favourites – Midnight and Ding Dong, as well as the traditional Silent Night, sung in English, French and German.  

The children read aloud the Christmas story in their own words, from the point of view of Mary, the star, the shepherds and the three kings. If you would like to read their words, please go to the class pages.

Christmas Fair

On Friday 6^th December, the PTA organised our Christmas Fair. This was an opportunity for the children to buy Christmas presents for their families, win prizes and have fun. Our Y6 children took their Reception ‘buddies’ shopping and helped them to count out their pennies. We are always so proud of how caring our children are towards each other.

The Day the Circus came to All Saints

We had an amazing time when the circus came to our school. Over 400 people came to watch the show. We raised  lots of money for our school too!

Harvest

We collected lots of food for the Wokingham Foodbank. The children had fun in our competition to see which class had the longest line of food. This was a great exercise for Year 6 children to practise their maths skills. They had to measure the foodline and divide the number by the number of children in the class. Poland class won the longest line!

Project Acorn

Project Acorn started in September 2018 with the idea of building a simple outdoor classroom. One year later after some extremely hard work from our school family and unbelievable generosity from local businesses, donating building resources, we have the most amazing outdoor learning area - an accessible garden, pond, fountain, vegetable garden and outdoor classroom for all our children to enjoy.
